Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information HabitAI (the "App") collects, how we use it, and your choices regarding your information.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve our services.

• Information You Provide: If you choose to sign in, your sign-in provider (Apple or Google) shares your name and email address with us. You can also use the App as a guest without creating an account or providing this information.
• Habit & Progress Data: The habits you create, your check-ins, streaks, reminders, and related notes.
• AI Coach Conversations: The messages you type to the AI Coach and the coach's replies. These are stored so you can revisit past conversations, and are sent to a third-party AI provider (OpenAI) to generate responses — see Section 4.
• Usage Data: We automatically collect technical data such as device type, operating system version, IP address, access time, and features used in the app.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide and Maintain the Service: Enable habit tracking, AI coaching insights, and progress syncing.
• Manage Subscriptions: Verify subscription status to enable premium features.
• Improve the App: Analyze usage patterns to enhance features and performance.
• Communicate with You: Send important updates such as policy changes or subscription alerts.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information. Data may be shared only in limited situations:

• Service Providers: Trusted third-party services for hosting (Google Firebase), analytics, and AI processing (OpenAI — see Section 4).
• Apple & Google: Used to process subscription payments through the App Store or Google Play.
• Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect user safety.
• Business Transfers: If HabitAI undergoes a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.

4. AI Coach and Third-Party AI Processing (OpenAI)

The AI Coach feature is powered by a third-party artificial intelligence service. We want to be explicit about how this works:

• What is sent: When you send a message to the AI Coach, that message, the history of the current conversation, and any habit details you include in those messages are transmitted to generate a response.
• Who it is sent to: The data is sent to OpenAI, L.L.C. (United States), which acts as our data processor, via our secure backend (Google Cloud Functions).
• Why: Solely to generate the AI Coach's replies and the habit actions you ask it to perform (for example, creating a habit or logging a check-in).
• What is NOT sent: We do not send your name, email address, or account identifier to OpenAI.
• Retention: Your conversations are stored in our database (Google Firestore) until you delete the conversation or your account. OpenAI may retain data submitted through its API for a limited period (up to 30 days) for abuse and misuse monitoring, and, per OpenAI's API data usage policy, does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.
• Your consent: The first time you use the AI Coach, the App asks for your explicit agreement before any message is sent to OpenAI. If you do not agree, no data is sent and you can continue to use every other feature of the App. You can stop using the AI Coach at any time.

5. Data Storage and Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information, including encryption during data transmission. Data may be stored on servers in multiple regions including Australia and the United States.

6. Data Retention

• Account & Habit Data: Stored while your account remains active.
• AI Coach Conversations: Stored until you delete them or delete your account (see Section 4 for OpenAI's separate, limited retention).

7. Your Rights and Choices

• Access & Correction: You may request access or correction of your personal data.
• Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data — including your habits, progress, and AI Coach conversations — at any time from within the App (Profile → Delete Account). Guest data can be deleted the same way.
• Opt-Out: You may decline AI data sharing (and still use the rest of the App), and unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

8. Children's Privacy

HabitAI is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date.
